Steamed Treacle Sponge

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the butter, eggs, flour, sugar, and milk. Mix until smooth and well incorporated.
  2. Grease a pudding bowl (plastic or heatproof) and pour your desired amount of treacle or golden syrup into the base.
  3. Pour the sponge mixture over the syrup in the bowl.
  4. Cover the bowl tightly with foil.
  5. Place the bowl in a slow cooker or steamer. Fill with boiling water so it reaches halfway up the sides of the pudding bowl.
  6. Cook on high in the slow cooker for approximately 2.5 hours, or steam until the sponge is firm and cooked through.
  7. Carefully remove the pudding from the cooker and allow it to cool slightly.
  8. Serve warm, optionally with custard, cream, or ice cream.
