Directions
Step 1: Sauté the Aromatics
Heat olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Add the onions, carrots, and celery, and sauté for 5–6 minutes until softened and slightly golden. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Step 2: Brown the Meat
Add the ground beef to the pan. Break it apart with a wooden spoon and cook until browned all over, about 6–8 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
Step 3: Build the Sauce
Stir in the tomato paste, allowing it to cook for 1–2 minutes to deepen the flavor. Pour in the chopped tomatoes, broth, and red wine if using. Add oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar if needed. Stir to combine.
Step 4: Simmer
Reduce heat to low, cover partially, and let the sauce simmer gently for 30–45 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken beautifully.
Step 5: Cook the Spaghetti
While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Step 6: Combine and Serve
Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve the Bolognese sauce generously over the cooked spaghetti. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan and garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
