Slow Cooker Sausage, Potatoes, and Cabbage

Directions

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

Slice the sausage into thick rounds. Peel and chop the potatoes into evenly sized chunks. Core and chop the cabbage into large pieces, and slice the onion.

Step 2: Grease the Slow Cooker

Lightly coat the inside of the slow cooker with olive oil to prevent sticking and add a subtle richness.

Step 3: Layer the Potatoes

Place the potatoes in an even layer at the bottom of the slow cooker. This helps them cook evenly and absorb the flavorful juices.

Step 4: Add Sausage and Vegetables

Layer the sliced sausage over the potatoes, followed by the onions, garlic, and chopped cabbage.

Step 5: Season

Sprinkle paprika, black pepper, thyme, and salt (if using) evenly over the top. As it cooks, the seasoning will gently infuse the vegetables and sausage.

Step 6: Add the Liquid

Pour the chicken broth around the sides of the slow cooker. This creates steam to soften the cabbage and potatoes without making the dish watery.

Step 7: Slow Cook

Cover and cook on low for 7–8 hours or on high for 4–5 hours, until the potatoes are fork-tender and the cabbage is soft and silky.

Step 8: Stir and Adjust

Gently stir everything together before serving to distribute the flavors. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 9: Serve

Serve hot straight from the slow cooker, spooning some of the savory broth over each portion.
