Directions
- Preheat the oven: Set to 180°C (350°F). Grease a 9x13 inch (23x33 cm) baking dish.
- Cook the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Prepare the sauce: In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add onion and sauté until translucent, about 3–4 minutes. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Make it creamy: Sprinkle the flour over the onions and garlic, stirring constantly for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk and cream until smooth. Cook until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3–4 minutes. Stir in 100 g (1 cup) mozzarella cheese until melted. Season with salt, pepper, and oregano.
- Combine ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, diced ham, and cheese sauce. Mix until everything is evenly coated.
- Assemble the casserole: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake: Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
- Serve: Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley or chives if desired.
