Mozzarella & Ham Casserole

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set to 180°C (350°F). Grease a 9x13 inch (23x33 cm) baking dish.
  2. Cook the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. Prepare the sauce: In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add onion and sauté until translucent, about 3–4 minutes. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Make it creamy: Sprinkle the flour over the onions and garlic, stirring constantly for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk and cream until smooth. Cook until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3–4 minutes. Stir in 100 g (1 cup) mozzarella cheese until melted. Season with salt, pepper, and oregano.
  5. Combine ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, diced ham, and cheese sauce. Mix until everything is evenly coated.
  6. Assemble the casserole: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
  7. Bake: Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
  8. Serve: Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley or chives if desired.
