Kentucky Fried Biscuits

Directions

  1. Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in Butter:
Add cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add Liquids:
Pour in cold buttermilk and milk. Stir gently with a spoon until just combined; the dough should be slightly sticky. Do not overmix.
  5. Shape Biscuits:
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead 2–3 times to bring it together. Pat or roll dough to about 1-inch thickness. Use a 2–3 inch round cutter to cut biscuits. Place them close together on the prepared baking sheet for soft sides or spaced apart for slightly crisp edges.
  6. Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, until the biscuits are golden brown and have risen beautifully.
  7. Optional Glaze:
Brush warm biscuits with melted butter immediately after removing from the oven for an extra buttery finish.
  8. Serve:
Serve hot with honey, jam, gravy, or as a side to fried chicken or breakfast eggs.
