Homemade Flower Bread

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the egg, softened butter, and yeast mixture. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions (about 6–8 pieces for petals). Roll each portion into a ball and shape into petals. Arrange the petals around a central dough ball to create a flower shape.
  5. Cover the shaped dough with a towel and let it rise again for 30–40 minutes until puffed.
  6. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Brush the dough gently with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if desired.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
