Directions

- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the egg, softened butter, and yeast mixture. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions (about 6–8 pieces for petals). Roll each portion into a ball and shape into petals. Arrange the petals around a central dough ball to create a flower shape.
- Cover the shaped dough with a towel and let it rise again for 30–40 minutes until puffed.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Brush the dough gently with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if desired.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
