Crispy Mozzarella Sticks with Marinara Sauce & Creamy Dip

Instructions

  1. Freeze the Cheese
Unwrap the mozzarella sticks and place them on a baking sheet. Freeze for at least 1 hour. This step is essential to prevent the cheese from melting too quickly while frying.
  2. Prepare the Breading Station
Place flour in one shallow bowl. In a second bowl, whisk together eggs and milk. In a third bowl, combine Italian breadcrumbs, panko, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat the Mozzarella
Roll each frozen mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off excess. Dip into the egg mixture, then coat thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture. For extra crispiness, repeat the egg and breadcrumb step for a double coating. Place coated sticks back on the tray and freeze again for 20–30 minutes.
  4. Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use enough oil to submerge the sticks halfway.
  5. Fry to Golden Perfection
Fry mozzarella sticks in small batches for 1–2 minutes, turning once, until golden brown and crisp. Watch closely — they cook quickly. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain.
  6. Warm the Marinara
While the sticks rest, gently warm the marinara sauce in a small saucepan over low heat. Add dried basil if desired.
  7. Make the Creamy Dip
In a small bowl, mix sour cream, mayonnaise, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth. Chill until ready to serve.
  8. Serve Immediately
Arrange mozzarella sticks on a serving platter. Serve hot with warm marinara sauce and the chilled creamy dip on the side.
