Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 1½-quart casserole dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread and raisins.
- In a 1-quart saucepan, heat the milk and 1/4 cup butter over medium heat until the butter melts, about 4–7 minutes. Pour this mixture over the bread cubes and let stand for 10 minutes to soak.
- Stir in the sugar, eggs, vanilla, and nutmeg until fully combined.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared casserole dish and bake for 40–50 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is lightly golden.
- While the pudding bakes, prepare the sauce. In a 1-quart saucepan, combine butter, sugar, brown sugar, and heavy cream. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and reaches a full boil, about 5–8 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
- Serve the warm bread pudding in individual dessert dishes and drizzle generously with the sweet sauce.
