Classic Bread Pudding with Sweet Sauce

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 1½-quart casserole dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread and raisins.
  3. In a 1-quart saucepan, heat the milk and 1/4 cup butter over medium heat until the butter melts, about 4–7 minutes. Pour this mixture over the bread cubes and let stand for 10 minutes to soak.
  4. Stir in the sugar, eggs, vanilla, and nutmeg until fully combined.
  5. Pour the mixture into the prepared casserole dish and bake for 40–50 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is lightly golden.
  6. While the pudding bakes, prepare the sauce. In a 1-quart saucepan, combine butter, sugar, brown sugar, and heavy cream. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and reaches a full boil, about 5–8 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  7. Serve the warm bread pudding in individual dessert dishes and drizzle generously with the sweet sauce.
