Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Stir in the diced onions until evenly coated with the dry mixture.
  3. Gradually add the milk and mix until a thick, spoonable batter forms.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, flattening slightly to form patties.
  6. Fry until golden brown on one side, then carefully flip and cook the other side until evenly golden and cooked through.
  7. Remove patties from the skillet and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
