Vanilla Buttermilk Pound Cake

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Pan

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Generously grease and lightly flour a 10-inch Bundt pan or a standard tube pan, making sure all the crevices are well coated to prevent sticking.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. This helps ensure the cake bakes evenly with a tender texture.

Step 3: Combine the Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl or measuring cup, stir together the buttermilk and vanilla extract. Set aside at room temperature.

Step 4: Cream the Butter and Sugar

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together using a hand or stand mixer. Mix on medium speed for 4–5 minutes until the mixture is pale, light, and fluffy. This step is key for a soft, fine crumb.

Step 5: Add the Eggs

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed to ensure everything is fully incorporated.

Step 6: Alternate Dry and Wet Ingredients

With the mixer on low speed, add the flour mixture in three additions, alternating with the buttermilk mixture. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix just until combined, being careful not to overmix.

Step 7: Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 70–80 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.

Step 8: Cool and Unmold

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 15–20 minutes. Carefully invert onto a wire rack and allow it to cool completely before slicing.
