The Day That Never Ended
Part I: The Golden Light Moment
Linda always says this wasn’t staged, and I believe her. Some of the best moments just happen without planning.
We were at that age where summer felt endless and time didn’t feel limited yet. Diane suddenly insisted we go outside because “the light was perfect on the patio.” She literally pulled us out of the house before we could even get ready properly. None of us had planned anything—we just followed her.
The sun was low, warm, and everything outside looked brighter than usual.
Part II: The Music in the Background
The back door was still open behind us. Inside the house, we could hear an old record playing—ABBA—but it kept skipping on the same part.
That repeating sound mixed with the quiet of the yard made everything feel still, like time had slowed down.
Karen stood next to me with her arm around my shoulder. She was always the calm one, the steady presence in our group.
Linda was on the other side, smiling at the camera. At the time, I didn’t understand her expression, but now I think she already knew this moment would matter later.
