Tatchos – The Ultimate Nacho–Tater Tot Mashup

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  2. Spread the frozen tater tots in a single layer on the baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle lightly with salt.
  3. Bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the tots are deeply golden and extra crispy. You should hear a satisfying crunch when they’re done.
  4. While the tots bake, heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the cooked ground beef or chicken, then season with smoked paprika, garlic powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir until warmed through and fragrant.
  5. Remove the tater tots from the oven and reduce the oven temperature to 200°C (400°F). Push the tots slightly closer together to create a base.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella evenly over the hot tots, making sure to reach the edges so every bite gets cheese.
  7. Scatter the seasoned meat evenly over the cheese layer. Add olives or jalapeños at this stage if using.
  8. Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for 8–10 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted, bubbly, and lightly golden in spots.
  9. Remove from the oven and let rest for 2–3 minutes. This helps the toppings settle and makes serving easier.
  10. Finish with dollops of sour cream, spoonfuls of guacamole, diced tomatoes, green onions, cilantro, and a drizzle of nacho cheese sauce if desired. Serve immediately while hot and melty.
