Directions
- Prepare the dough: Place the flour on a clean surface or in a large bowl and form a well in the center. Gradually add the salt, sugar, yeast, milk, and water. Mix together until a rough dough forms.
- Knead the dough: Add the softened butter and knead for 10–12 minutes until the dough is smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky.
- First rest: Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rest for 15 minutes at room temperature.
- Shape the buns: Divide the dough into 30 g (about 1 oz) portions. Shape each portion into a smooth ball and place them on a buttered baking sheet, leaving enough space for rising.
- Second rise: Allow the buns to rise until doubled in size, about 45–60 minutes, depending on room temperature.
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 200°C (390°F).
- Egg wash: Brush the tops of the risen buns with the beaten egg to give them a golden, glossy finish.
- Bake: Place the buns in the preheated oven and bake for 10–15 minutes until golden brown.
- Optional second brushing: A few minutes before finishing, remove the buns from the oven, brush again with egg, and return to bake until done.
- Cool and serve: Allow the buns to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy them warm or at room temperature.
