Easy Spaghetti Sauce

Directions

  1. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 5 minutes until translucent and soft. Add the minced garlic and cook 1–2 more minutes, until fragrant.
  2. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir well to combine. Add tomato paste if using, for extra depth and richness.
  3. Stir in the dried basil, oregano, sugar, salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and simmer partially covered for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally. For a deeper flavor, simmer for up to an hour.
  5. Add fresh parsley and thyme during the last 5 minutes of cooking for a bright, fresh flavor.
  6. Optional: For a smooth sauce, blend with an immersion blender or in a regular blender. For a chunkier sauce, leave as is.
  7. Serve over cooked pasta, meatballs, or as a base for lasagna. Garnish with fresh basil or grated Parmesan for extra flavor.
