Directions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare Onion: In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion until soft and translucent, about 5–7 minutes. Let cool slightly.
  3. Mix Meatloaf: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, sautéed onions, milk, breadcrumbs, eggs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined; avoid overmixing to keep the meatloaf tender.
  4. Shape and Place: Transfer the mixture into the prepared loaf pan, pressing gently to shape into a uniform loaf.
  5. Add Topping: Spread a thin layer of ketchup over the top. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese if desired.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 55–65 minutes, or until the meatloaf reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  7. Rest and Serve: Allow the meatloaf to rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing. This helps it hold together and keeps it juicy. Serve warm with your favorite sides.
