Apple Danish

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small saucepan, add the apple quarters and a splash of water. Simmer for about 4 minutes, or until the apples just begin to soften. Drain and return to the pan. Stir in the sugar and allow the mixture to cool completely.
  3. Unfold each puff pastry sheet and cut into six equal rectangles. You should have 12 rectangles in total.
  4. Lightly dampen the edges of a rectangle with water. Place a spoonful of the sweetened apple mixture in the center. Top it with another rectangle, making a small slit in the top piece to allow steam to escape.
  5. Press the edges together firmly to seal the parcels. Repeat this process with all rectangles until all Apple Danishes are assembled.
  6. Place the pastries on the prepared baking tray. Lightly dust each with a little extra sugar for a sparkling finish.
  7. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Serve warm to fully enjoy the buttery, flaky texture and sweet apple filling.
