AIR FRYER ONION RINGS

Preparation Instructions

1. Slice the Onions

Start by peeling your onions and cutting them into ½-inch thick rings. Carefully separate each ring from the other until you have individual circular slices. Save the small inner pieces for another recipe or chop them for use in soups or sauces.

2. Prepare the Breading Stations

Set up three shallow bowls or plates for a traditional dredging setup:

  • Bowl 1 (Flour Mixture): Combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Bowl 2 (Egg Mixture): Beat eggs and mix with buttermilk. This helps the coating stick.
  • Bowl 3 (Breadcrumbs): Pour in panko breadcrumbs. Mix in optional seasonings like cayenne or parmesan here for added flavor.

3. Bread the Onion Rings

The breading process is crucial to get a crispy finish:

  • Dip each ring into the flour mixture and coat well. Shake off the excess.
  • Then, dunk the ring into the egg mixture. Ensure it is fully coated.
  • Finally, press it gently into the panko breadcrumbs, turning to coat both sides completely. You want a nice thick coating.

Tip: For ultra-crispy rings, double-coat them by repeating steps 2 and 3 (egg + panko) once more.

Place breaded onion rings on a plate or tray while you continue coating the rest.
