Steps
Step 1: Prepare the Cake Batter
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (3–4 minutes).
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
Step 2: Bake the Cake
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 3: Prepare the Chocolate Filling
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream and butter over medium heat until melted and simmering.
- Remove from heat, add chocolate chips, let sit 1 minute, then stir until smooth.
Step 4: Assemble the Cake
- Slice the cooled cake horizontally into two layers using a serrated knife.
- Spread the chocolate filling evenly over the bottom layer.
- Place the top layer on the filling, gently pressing down.
- Optional: Frost the sides with buttercream or whipped cream.
- Slice and serve.
