  • ½ lb (225 g) ground pork (optional, for extra tenderness)
  • ½ cup (50 g) breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup (25 g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (about 6 g)
  • 2 tablespoons (8 g) fresh parsley, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon (3 g) salt
  • ½ teaspoon (1 g) black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil (for frying)

For the Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (about 9 g)
  • 1 small onion (about 4 oz / 115 g), finely chopped
  • 1 can (28 oz / 800 g) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz / 425 g) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon (1 g) dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon (1 g) dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon (3 g) salt (or to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon (1 g) black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) sugar (optional, to balance acidity)

For Serving:

  • 12 oz (340 g) spaghetti
  • Extra grated Parmesan
  • Fresh basil or parsley (optional)
