Ribeye Steak Sandwich

Directions

Step 1: Bring the Steak to Room Temperature

Remove the ribeye from the refrigerator about 30 minutes before cooking. This helps it cook evenly and stay juicy. Pat it dry with paper towels.

Step 2: Season the Steak

Season both sides generously with salt and black pepper. Press the seasoning gently into the meat.

Step 3: Cook the Onions

Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook slowly for 10–15 minutes, stirring often, until soft, golden, and slightly sweet. Remove from the pan and set aside.

Step 4: Sear the Ribeye

Heat a heavy skillet or cast-iron pan over high heat. Add olive oil, then place the ribeye in the hot pan. Sear for 3–4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until a deep brown crust forms.

Step 5: Butter Baste

During the last minute of cooking, add butter to the pan and spoon it over the steak. This adds richness and enhances flavor. Remove the steak and let it rest for 5–10 minutes.

Step 6: Prepare the Sauce

In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth. Set aside.

Step 7: Slice the Steak

Slice the rested ribeye thinly against the grain. This ensures tender bites and makes the sandwich easier to eat.

Step 8: Toast the Bread

Lightly toast the sandwich rolls in the oven or skillet until warm and slightly crisp.

Step 9: Assemble the Sandwich

Spread sauce on the bottom half of each roll. Layer sliced ribeye, caramelized onions, and cheese. Add any optional toppings you like.

Step 10: Melt and Serve

Place assembled sandwiches under the broiler for 1–2 minutes until the cheese melts. Top with the other half of the roll and serve immediately.
