- ½ cup granulated sugar (100 g)
- ½ cup water (120 ml)
- 1 teaspoon salt (5 g)
- ½ teaspoon whole black peppercorns (optional)
- 2–3 whole cloves (optional)
- ½ small onion, thinly sliced (optional)
