Homemade Mold Bread

Directions

  1. Prepare the Yeast Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, warm milk, dry yeast, sugar, and eggs. Mix well.
  2. Add Flour and Salt: Gradually add the flour in two parts. After adding the second portion, mix in the salt. Knead until you get a smooth, elastic dough.
  3. First Rise: Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Shape the Dough: Punch down the dough to remove air. Divide it into two equal portions. Stretch and roll each portion into a log. Place the logs in a greased loaf pan.
  5. Second Rise: Cover the pan and let the dough rise for 30 minutes, or until it has nearly tripled in size.
  6. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F).
  7. Brush and Bake: Brush the top of the dough with a mixture of egg yolk and 1 teaspoon milk. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the bread cool slightly before slicing. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Tips & Variations

  • Soft Crust: For a softer crust, cover the top of the bread loosely with foil during the last 10 minutes of baking.
  • Flavor Additions: Add herbs like rosemary or thyme to the dough for a savory twist.
  • Milk Substitute: You can replace the milk with almond milk or oat milk for a dairy-free version.
