Classic Egg Custard

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and salt until well combined and smooth.
  3. Pour the custard mixture into a 9-inch (23 cm) pie plate.
  4. Place the pie plate inside a larger baking dish. Carefully pour hot water into the outer dish until it reaches halfway up the sides of the pie plate. This water bath ensures gentle, even cooking.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  6. Remove the custard from the oven and allow it to cool to room temperature. Serve warm or chilled, optionally garnished with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a dollop of whipped cream.
