Balsamic Caprese Grilled Flank Steak

Directions

Step 1: Marinate the Steak

In a small bowl, mix olive oil, garlic, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Rub the mixture evenly over both sides of the flank steak. Let it rest at room temperature for 20–30 minutes while you prepare the other components.

Step 2: Prepare the Balsamic Glaze

Pour balsamic vinegar into a small saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat and let it cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick and syrupy. Add honey or brown sugar if desired for extra sweetness. Set aside to cool.

Step 3: Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 230°C / 450°F). Lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.

Step 4: Grill the Steak

Place the flank steak on the hot grill. Cook for 5–6 minutes per side for medium-rare, adjusting time for desired doneness. The surface should develop a deep, caramelized crust with visible grill marks.

Step 5: Rest the Steak

Remove steak from the grill and let it rest for 8–10 minutes. This step ensures the juices redistribute, keeping the meat tender and flavorful.

Step 6: Slice the Steak

Slice the steak thinly against the grain. This shortens the muscle fibers and makes every bite more tender.

Step 7: Assemble the Caprese

Arrange sliced steak on a serving platter. Scatter cherry tomatoes and fresh mozzarella evenly over the top.

Step 8: Finish with Basil and Glaze

Sprinkle torn basil leaves over the steak, then drizzle generously with balsamic glaze just before serving.
