Introduction

These Apple Pie Bars capture all the flavors of a classic apple pie—tender, spiced apples, buttery crust, and a touch of walnuts—while being easy to slice and serve. Ingredients

For the crust:

  • 450 g (4 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 150 g (3/4 cup) granulated sugar
  • 110 g (1/2 cup) light brown sugar, lightly packed
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 500 g (4 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) chopped walnuts
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

For the apple filling:

  • 680 g (1 1/2 lbs) Granny Smith apples, peeled, quartered, cored, and sliced 1/8 inch thick (about 3 large)
  • 680 g (1 1/2 lbs) Golden Delicious apples, peeled, quartered, cored, and sliced 1/8 inch thick (about 3 large)
  • 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 50 g (1/4 cup) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 57 g (4 tbsp / 1/2 stick) unsalted butter
