Nicole’s husband, Joey Amor, later revealed troubling details about the week leading up to the tragedy. Just days before the attack, Nicole and several other troops were moved from the main base to an off-base structure that reportedly resembled a shipping container.
The relocation was intended as a safety measure. Military officials feared the main base could become a target, so troops were dispersed into smaller groups. However, the building they were moved to allegedly had little to no defensive protection.
Some officials had reportedly expressed concerns that the location gathered too many troops in a place that would be extremely difficult to defend. In a heartbreaking twist, the move designed to protect them may have placed them directly in danger.
