Directions
- Preheat the oven and prepare cake pans according to the chocolate cake mix instructions. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Prepare the chocolate cake batter using the box instructions, adding 1 cup of milk for extra moisture. Pour evenly into prepared pans.
- Bake according to the package directions. Remove cakes from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
- While the cakes cool, prepare the chocolate pudding filling. Whisk together the instant pudding mix and 2 cups milk until smooth. Chill until set.
- For the frosting, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, alternating with milk, until smooth and spreadable. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Place one cooled cake layer on a serving plate. Spread the chocolate pudding evenly over the top.
- Place the second cake layer on top of the pudding. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the prepared chocolate frosting.
- Chill the cake for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow layers to set. Slice and enjoy!
