Three Chocolate Milk Cake

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare cake pans according to the chocolate cake mix instructions. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Prepare the chocolate cake batter using the box instructions, adding 1 cup of milk for extra moisture. Pour evenly into prepared pans.
  3. Bake according to the package directions. Remove cakes from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
  4. While the cakes cool, prepare the chocolate pudding filling. Whisk together the instant pudding mix and 2 cups milk until smooth. Chill until set.
  5. For the frosting, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, alternating with milk, until smooth and spreadable. Stir in vanilla extract.
  6. Place one cooled cake layer on a serving plate. Spread the chocolate pudding evenly over the top.
  7. Place the second cake layer on top of the pudding. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the prepared chocolate frosting.
  8. Chill the cake for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow layers to set. Slice and enjoy!
