PART 4 — The Truth Starts Cracking
The officer looked at me directly now. “Ma’am, are you under any threat?”
“No,” I said. “But I am being harassed.”
Frank’s face tightened. “Harassed? I’m your father!”
Something inside me finally snapped—but cleanly, not chaotically.
“You didn’t come to my wedding,” I said again, slower this time. “You ignored me for weeks. Then you texted me demanding money like I owed you access to my life.”
His jaw clenched. “Family takes care of family.”
I nodded slowly.
“You’re right,” I said.
He relaxed slightly—too soon.
“So where were you when I needed family?” I asked.
Silence.
Even the officers went still.
Ryan didn’t speak. He just watched me, like he was seeing a version of me I hadn’t allowed out before.
Frank tried again, softer now. “We can fix this at home. Just come with us—”
“I am home,” I said.
The words landed heavier than I expected.
Frank looked at the house like it had betrayed him.
Then one officer stepped forward. “Sir, I think you should leave for now. There’s no indication of danger here.”
Frank’s face changed instantly.
“Are you kidding me?” he snapped. “She’s being influenced. That man—” he pointed at Ryan “—is isolating her from her family.”
Ryan finally smiled, but there was no humor in it.
“She isolated herself from people who only show up when they want something.”
Frank’s breathing got heavier.
The officers weren’t buying it anymore.
“Sir,” one of them said firmly, “you need to step away from the property.”
For the first time, Frank realized he wasn’t in control.
