The Night That Changed My Life

Part 2: The Call That Changed Everything

The basement was dark and damp. The smell of dust and old boxes filled the air. My leg hurt terribly and I could barely move.

The hours passed slowly.

I thought I was completely alone… until I realized my phone was still in my bag.

My hands trembled as I looked at my contact list.

Then I saw a name I hadn’t called in twenty years.

My father.

I had cut ties with him because I wanted a normal life, far away from his dangerous world and his secrets.

But that night, I had no choice.

I called him.

He answered almost immediately.

I explained what had happened: my broken leg, the betrayal, the basement.

He only asked me one thing:

“Where are you?”

I gave him the address.

Ten minutes later, I heard heavy footsteps above me.

The basement door exploded open.

A huge man walked in. It was Marco, my father’s right-hand man. When he saw my leg and my injuries, his face hardened.

He lifted me in his arms and we went upstairs.

Ethan looked at us, completely confused.

I told him calmly:

“This is the man who works for my father.”

Ethan still didn’t understand.

He knew my last name… Romano.

But he had never asked which Romano family.
