Southern Fried Shrimp

Instructions

  1. Heat the Oil
In a deep fryer or large skillet, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C). Make sure there is enough oil for the shrimp to fry evenly.
  2. Prepare the Wet Mixture
In a large bowl, combine milk, oregano, paprika, garlic powder, and salt. Stir well to blend the seasonings.
  3. Marinate the Shrimp
Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the milk mixture. Toss until the shrimp are fully coated. Let them sit for 10–15 minutes so they absorb the flavors.
  4. Prepare the Dry Mixture
In a separate medium bowl, mix together the flour, oregano, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Coat the Shrimp
Remove shrimp from the milk mixture and transfer them to the flour mixture. Toss gently until each shrimp is fully coated with the seasoned flour.
  6. Fry the Shrimp
Carefully place the coated shrimp into the hot oil. Fry in batches for 3–5 minutes, or until the shrimp are cooked through and the coating becomes light golden brown and crispy.
  7. Drain the Shrimp
Remove the shrimp using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate or baking sheet to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve Immediately
Serve the fried shrimp hot with lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauces for the best flavor and texture.
