Instructions
- Make the Pancake Batter
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk the egg, buttermilk, melted butter, and maple syrup.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed — don’t overmix. The batter should be slightly thick.
- Cook the Pancake Buns
- Heat a nonstick pan over medium-low heat and lightly grease it.
- Pour small rounds of batter (about 3–4 inches wide).
- Cook until bubbles form on top, then flip and cook until golden brown.
- For the signature McGriddle flavor, drizzle or drop small dots of maple syrup onto the first side as it cooks, then flip.
- Prepare the Filling
- Cook sausage patties (or bacon) until browned.
- In the same pan, cook the eggs (you can use a ring mold for a perfect shape).
- Add cheese on top of the hot eggs or sausage to melt slightly.
- Assemble the McGriddle
- Place one pancake bun on a plate, add the sausage (or bacon), egg, and cheese, then top with the second pancake bun.
- Press gently and serve warm.
Tips
- To make it more authentic, freeze small maple syrup dots on parchment paper and place one or two inside the pancake batter before cooking — just like the real McGriddle!
- You can double the batch and freeze extras; just reheat in the toaster or microwave.
- Try adding a drizzle of extra maple syrup before serving for that perfect sweet–savory combo.
