Instructions
- Make the Mashed Potatoes
Place the cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold salted water. Bring to a boil and cook for 15–20 minutes until fork-tender. Drain well. Mash with warm milk and butter until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and keep warm. - Cook the Ground Beef
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess grease if necessary. - Add Aromatics
Add diced onion to the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. - Create the Gravy
Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir well to coat. Cook for 1–2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
Gradually pour in the beef broth while stirring continuously to prevent lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce and thyme (if using). Bring to a gentle simmer.
- Simmer Until Thickened
Let the mixture simmer for 5–7 minutes until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. - Assemble and Serve
Spoon creamy mashed potatoes onto plates or into bowls. Top generously with the ground beef and gravy. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve hot.
