Crock Pot Brown Sugar Pineapple Ham

Directions

  1. Prepare the Crock Pot:
Use a large crock pot, at least 6 quarts (5.7 L) capacity, to accommodate the ham and glaze comfortably. Spread 2 cups (400 g) of brown sugar evenly on the bottom of the crock pot. This acts as the first layer of caramelized sweetness for the ham to rest on.
  2. Arrange the Ham:
Place the spiral-cut ham on top of the brown sugar layer. Gently open the slices with your hands so the glaze can seep into the inner layers, ensuring every bite is infused with flavor.
  3. Add Honey:
Drizzle the ½ cup (120 mL) honey evenly over the ham, letting it trickle into the folds and openings. The honey adds extra sweetness and helps create a sticky, golden glaze as it cooks.
  4. Add Pineapple:
Scatter the pineapple chunks or tidbits, along with their juice, around the sides of the ham and some on top. The pineapple not only provides a tropical tang but also contributes natural moisture that keeps the ham tender and juicy.
  5. Top with Remaining Brown Sugar:
Sprinkle the remaining 1 ½ cups (300 g) of brown sugar over the top of the ham. Spread it evenly to ensure a uniform glaze. The sugar will caramelize slowly as the ham cooks, creating a beautiful, golden crust.
  6. Cook the Ham:
Cover the crock pot with the lid. Cook on low heat for 3 ½ to 4 hours, or until the ham is heated through and the glaze is bubbly and caramelized. Check occasionally, and baste the ham with the glaze from the bottom of the pot if desired for extra stickiness.
  7. Serve:
Carefully remove the ham from the crock pot and transfer it to a serving platter. Spoon some of the pineapple-brown sugar glaze over the top for extra sweetness and shine. Slice along the spiral cuts and serve warm.
