Cream-Filled Donuts

Directions

Prepare the Dough:

  1. Warm the milk until lukewarm. In a large bowl, combine the milk with yeast, vegetable oil, and icing sugar. Stir to dissolve the yeast.
  2. Add flour and salt, mixing until incorporated. The dough will be slightly sticky.
  3. Using a mixer with a dough hook, knead at medium speed for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 30–60 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Stretch gently and cut into rounds using a donut cutter or a circular mold.
  6. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C) and fry the donuts for 2–3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Prepare the Custard Filling:
7. In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg, egg yolks, cornstarch, and sugar until smooth. Gradually add the warm milk while stirring continuously.
8. Transfer the mixture to a saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens. Remove from heat.
9. Stir in margarine and vanilla extract until fully combined. Allow the custard to cool slightly.

Assemble the Donuts:
10. Fill a piping bag with the custard and insert it into each donut to create a creamy center.
11. Dust the filled donuts generously with powdered sugar for a sweet finishing touch.
