Copycat Arby's Beef Cheddar

Step-by-Step Instructions

Make the Arbys Sauce:

In a small mixing bowl combine ketchup brown sugar apple cider vinegar Worcestershire sauce garlic powder and onion powder Whisk until smooth and set aside so flavors meld

Prepare the Cheese Sauce:

In a small saucepan over medium heat melt the butter until just foaming Stir in the flour and cook while stirring constantly for one minute to remove any raw flour taste Slowly pour in the milk a little at a time whisking constantly to avoid lumps Once all the milk is in bring the mixture to a gentle simmer whisk and let it bubble for about five minutes until thickened Take the pot off the heat and stir in the shredded cheddar until fully melted and glossy Set aside and keep warm

Warm the Roast Beef:

In a large skillet set over medium heat add the beef broth and let it reach a simmer for about five minutes Separate the slices of roast beef and add them to the broth one at a time This helps each piece soak up flavor and keeps them from clumping Allow the beef to heat for one to two minutes just until warmed through

Assemble the Sandwiches:

Lay out the onion buns and spread a generous layer of homemade Arbys sauce on the bottom half Top with a pile of warm roast beef Spoon the hot cheese sauce lavishly over the meat Cap with the top bun and serve straight away while gooey and melty

You Must Know

  • High in protein and calcium thanks to beef and cheese
  • Homemade sauces are free of artificial additives
  • You can control the sodium in your sandwich

The sharp cheddar cheese is always my favorite part Every time I make this sandwich my kids want extra cheese sauce for dipping curly fries or even their veggies The gooey drips are a big part of the fun and bring back so many laughs from family camping trips

Storage Tips

This sandwich is best enjoyed fresh but you can store leftover roast beef and sauce separately in the fridge for up to two days. Reheat cheese sauce gently over low heat stirring constantly to avoid separation. Do not freeze the assembled sandwich as the bun will get soggy and the cheese sauce may break.
