Directions
Prepare the Dough
- In a large bowl, mix whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, warm milk, sugar, salt, softened butter, and yeast. Knead into a smooth, uniform dough.
- Cover and let the dough rest for about 90 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal parts and let them rest for another 30 minutes.
Prepare the Filling
- Mix cream cheese with salt and sugar to taste. Set aside.
Assemble the Buns
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
- Flatten each dough portion slightly, fill with cream cheese, and shape into buns.
- Place the buns on a baking tray and bake for 25 minutes.
Prepare Butter Mixture & Final Bake
- In a small bowl, combine melted butter, egg (or cornstarch mixture), milk, dried parsley, salt, pepper, and mayonnaise if using.
- Remove the baked buns from the oven and cut them open lightly. Fill with cooked chicken and top with grated cheddar cheese.
- Brush the buns with the prepared butter mixture.
- Increase oven temperature to 200°C (400°F) and bake for another 15 minutes until golden and cheese is melted.
