Big Apple Fritters

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. Mix the Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth.
  3. Make the Batter
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Fold in the diced apples so they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  4. Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or heavy pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). The oil should be deep enough for the fritters to float.
  5. Fry the Fritters
Using a spoon or small scoop, carefully drop portions of batter into the hot oil. Fry 2–3 fritters at a time to avoid overcrowding. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crisp.
  6. Drain the Fritters
Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. Prepare the Glaze
In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and pourable.
  8. Glaze the Fritters
Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters or lightly dip the tops into the glaze.
  9. Serve Warm
Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes, then serve while the fritters are still warm and fragrant.
