Bacon & Cheese Breakfast Strata

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. Layer the bread cubes evenly in the prepared dish. Sprinkle the crumbled bacon and shredded cheese over the bread.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and Dijon mustard (if using).
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, bacon, and cheese. Press down gently to make sure the bread soaks up the custard.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and let the strata sit for at least 30 minutes, or refrigerate overnight for a make-ahead option.
  6. Bake covered for 25 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  7. Let the strata cool slightly before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
