Ingredients

For the onions and base

  • 2–3 large sweet onions, sliced into ¼-inch rings (about 500 g / 1 lb)
  • Cooking spray or butter, for greasing a 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) baking dish

For the cheesy sauce

  • 1 cup mayonnaise (240 ml)
  • ½ cup sour cream (120 ml)
  • 1 ½ cups grated cheddar cheese (150 g / 5 oz)
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese (50 g / 1.75 oz)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (1 g)
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder (1 g)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (0.5 g)

For the topping

  • ½ cup crushed Ritz crackers (55 g / 2 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (28 g)
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley (5 g / 2 tablespoons)
