- 1 ¼ cups (300 ml) water, room temperature
- 3 tablespoons (45 g) unsalted butter, melted
- 4 tablespoons (55 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon + 4 tablespoons (20 ml) olive oil, divided
For the Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons (30 g) unsalted butter
- ¼ cup (40 g) grated onion
- ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 (28-ounce / 800 g) can crushed tomatoes
- ¼ teaspoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons coarsely chopped fresh basil
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
For the Toppings:
- 1 pound (450 g) mozzarella cheese, shredded (about 4 cups)
- ¼ cup (25 g) grated Parmesan cheese
- Pepperoni or other toppings as desired
