30-Minute Healthy Chocolate Cake

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven. Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients. In a medium bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Combine wet ingredients. In a large bowl, mix applesauce, honey or maple syrup, melted coconut oil, almond milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Combine wet and dry. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, whisking until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cake tender.
  5. Pour batter. Transfer the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Serve. Enjoy as is or top with a healthier frosting like Greek yogurt frosting or avocado chocolate frosting for an extra touch.
